WHAT IS KIDWIND CHALLENGE?
The KidWind Challenge is an exciting competition where students explore wind energy and develop creative solutions. Students develop practical STEM skills, enhance engineering thinking, and solve real-world problems, supporting Estonia’s transition to renewable energy.
Student teams design and build small wind turbines and solar energy devices, and then meet with a panel of judges to present their designs.

The KidWind Challenge is a collaborative effort of teachers, students, engineers, and practitioners, all working to make wind energy and other renewable energy education available in classrooms around the world.

KidWind Challenge events are held at Tallinn University of Technology in summer.

There are three competition categories:

  • Youngest age group (5th-8th grade)
  • Oldest age group (9th-12th grade)
All 5th-12th grade student groups can participate in the KidWind Challenge event.

Total teams: 16 (4 students + 1 mentor per team)
Learning the theory
Students gain knowledge of the fundamentals of wind energy and get a practical overview of how a wind turbine works.
Building a Wind Turbine
Students design and construct their own wind turbines using modern technologies.
Competition Day
Teams test their turbines in a specialized wind tunnel and present their results to a panel of expert judges.
