1-WEEK ENERGY INTENSIVE COURSE FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT TALTECH UNIVERSITY

During one week, Estonian high school students will visit the Tallinn University of Technology campus to gain a thorough understanding of energy, primarily through practical experiments. In addition, they will visit various energy facilities and hear from top executives and engineers of leading Estonian energy companies.

The course aims to provide high school students with basic knowledge and an overview of future developments and prospects in the field of energy, so that they can make informed decisions about their future careers

PROGRAM OF THE COURSE

TOUR DESTINATIONS AND LECTURES BY REPRESENTATIVES OF LEADING ESTONIAN ENERGY COMPANIES

HYDROGEN ELECTROLYZER

Stargate Hydrogen is an Estonian company that is engaged in the development of hydrogen technology. They have a mini-electrolyzer at the Tallinn University of Technology campus, which can be used to demonstrate the production of hydrogen. In addition, a representative of Stargate Hydrogen gives a lecture providing an overview of the current state and plans of hydrogen technology.

MUSTAMÄE COGENERATION PLANT

Electricity and heat energy production based on renewable energy sources (wood chips). One of Estonia's most modern power plants is located in Mustamäe, near Tallinn University of Technology. The power plant belongs to Utilitas Tallinn AS.

MEKTORY HEAT HUB

The laboratory (created with the support of Utilitas Tallinn AS) is like a microcosm of heat energy, where a miniature district heating system is exhibited. For this purpose, a modern heating unit, a piece of Estonia's largest trunk pipe, a model of a modern cogeneration plant, and a thermal camera have been installed there. It is located on the Tallinn University of Technology campus, in Mektory.

MEKTORY ENERGY HUB

On the basis of support from Eesti Energia AS, Labor was created. It introduces the energy system and allows learning about various components of energy through interactive devices such as production, distribution, and consumption. It is located at the Tallinn University of Technology campus, Mektory.

SURUGAS AND BIOMETHANE FUEL STATION

Refueling of city buses and cars with clean fuels (natural gas, biomethane). Introduction to technology and testing of refueling. The refueling station is located in Mustamäe near the Tallinn University of Technology and is owned by Eesti Gaas AS.

SOLAR ENERGY - SOLARSTONE

A representative from Solarstone introduces practical experience in solar energy, brings various real solar panels on site, and presents the possibility of integrating solar panels onto building roofs.

RENEWABLE ENERGY -

EESTI ENERGIA

A representative from Eesti Energia introduces the transition of Estonia's largest energy group from oil shale energy to renewable energy sources. What does Estonia's energy landscape look like in 2030, 2040, and 2050?

THERMAL ENERGY - ADVEN

A representative from Adven Estonia talks about how to shape the energy transition in a changing world. The current challenges in the energy industry are presented, as well as the solutions that the Adven Group is implementing to address these challenges.

WIND ENERGY - ENEFIT GREEN

A representative from Enefit Green introduces the current state of wind energy in Estonia, presents development plans, and future technologies in this field. What is the size and capacity of the wind parks planned for Estonia? When will the first offshore wind park be completed, and can wind energy replace oil shale energy?

NUCLEAR ENERGY -

FERMI ENERGIA

A representative from Fermi Energy introduces the development of a new generation small nuclear reactor for use in Estonia, to ensure carbon-free, affordable, and weather-independent electricity production.

PARTICIPANTS' FEEDBACK
Markus
12.grade student
"I highly recommend this course, because this course has been the most interesting in 3 years"

"Seemed interesting. Lots of practice and less theory"

"Because it seemed like an exciting topic and the subject is taught by a good teacher, in addition to that I wanted to be away from school for once and TalTech seemed like the perfect place for that"
Camilla
12.grade student
"At times I was interested in the topic of energy, and there are opportunities for further education here (for a highly paid and necessary position)"

"Everything, how it was carried out and learned a lot about the topics, and there was practice as well as guests who talked about their field."
Artur
12.grade student
"I liked everything. the teachers were nice, the practice was interesting and the whole week itself was very tip-top"

"And, just go, you won't regret it! Totally nice"
Laura
12.grade student
"Within the course, I got a better understanding of where I want to go in the future and what options I have."

"I recommend it. University life is quite different from high school life. Second, this subject/topic (thermal energy) is super cool."
